When you think about your wedding photos, the first thing that likely comes to mind is the big moments: getting ready with your parents, the first look, walking down the aisle, your first dance. But the little details (your invitation suite, heirloom jewelry, the scent you chose for the day) tell JUST as much of the story. That’s where flat lay photography comes in.

As a wedding photographer serving Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, I’ve seen how beautifully styled details elevate a wedding gallery and give couples a visual time capsule of their day. It captures your details in a creative, beautiful, and high quality way that allows you to enjoy them forever!
Flat lays are curated photos of your wedding details carefully styled on a clean surface, often including florals, ring boxes, and more. They help set the tone of your gallery, capture your aesthetic, and add incredible details that look stunning to complement your wedding album.
Flat lays are one of my favorite things to photograph during a wedding day as they usually contain so much special meaning for the couple. I photograph up-close macro shots of the rings creatively, often placing them in florals or intertwined within each other.

To make sure we can create intentional, styled images on your wedding morning, I always recommend preparing a flat lay box ahead of time. It saves stress, ensures nothing is forgotten, and allows us to make the most of our time when I arrive. As a professional photographer, here’s what I recommend to each of my clients:

A few loose blooms or greenery from your florist (ask them to set some aside just for your photographer!)

Put all of these items in one box or bag and hand it to a bridesmaid or planner to set aside. That way, I can begin styling and photographing as soon as I arrive, while you’re getting hair and makeup done!
This means you don’t need to go out and buy anything extra unless you want something very custom — but if you’re excited about the idea, I’m happy to point you to great vendors. Some of my favorites are the Styling Archives, Bella Belle Shoes, and Olive and Oak Mats.
If you’re investing in high-quality photography, flat lays are an essential part of that editorial, polished look. They bring together all the details you spent months choosing, and they anchor your gallery in your unique style.
If you’re planning a wedding in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island and care about the intentional little details — I’d love to connect. Inquire now about your date!
