There’s something so timeless and romantic about being on the water, and Ally and Spencer’s engagement session was the perfect reminder of that. Originally, we had planned this session a week earlier, but rain forced us to reschedule. And honestly, what a blessing in disguise! By waiting it out, we ended up with the most dreamy evening for sailboat engagement photos: warm weather, golden light, and the kind of sunkissed glow every couple dreams about.

For their engagement session, Ally and Spencer rented a sailboat out of Stamford, CT, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect choice. As a wedding photographer, I’ve captured engagement sessions in gardens, beaches, and city streets, but there was something so magical about documenting their laughter, joy, and love with the open water as our backdrop. If you’ve ever thought about doing sailboat engagement photos and love the chance to be creative, let this be your sign that it’s worth it!

One of the things that I love about engagement photos are that they have the opportunity to be more than just documenting a season of your life — they can be about creating an experience together. Sailboat sessions are unique because they combine adventure, intimacy, and elegance all in one. Out on the water, there are no distractions — just the two of you, the rhythm of the waves, and the warm glow of the sun (just make sure you don’t get motion sickness!)
From a photography perspective, the textures of the boat, the sparkling water, and the sweeping horizon create a setting that feels cinematic and endlessly romantic. And when you add in a couple like Ally and Spencer, who were SO natural and playful together, every frame told a story. Photos become so much more intimate and lovely when the couple is not afraid to show their love.
We met up about two hours before sunset to maximize that golden-hour light. The late afternoon sun painted everything in the softest, most flattering tones. Ally and Spencer danced, laughed, and shared quiet moments as the sailboat glided across the water. I loved how the movement of the boat added spontaneity — no two photos were alike, and every shot captured something fresh and authentic. It was definitely different than any other session I have done. Being on a sailboat didn’t allow for much movement, so I had to be really creative with my poses with very little movement and balance.

The best part of capturing engagement sessions is knowing it’s only the beginning. Ally and Spencer are tying the knot next summer with a beach wedding, and after spending the evening with them on the sailboat, I know it’s going to be a day filled with joy, sunshine, and so much love. I can already imagine how beautifully their beachside celebration will reflect the same adventurous spirit we captured during their engagement session.

If you’re dreaming of unique, adventurous, and romantic photos, sailboat engagement photos are an incredible option. They’re perfect for couples who want their engagement gallery to feel like an experience — something you’ll remember just as much as the photos themselves.
Whether it’s Stamford, Newport, or the Long Island Sound, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels authentically “you.” Let’s set sail, chase that golden light, and create images you’ll treasure for a lifetime. Inquire now to book your engagement session!

A Beautiful Evening for Trinity College Grad Photos I absolutely love the excitement of graduation season. There are celebrations, looking forward to what is next, and the chance to document an incredibly meaningful milestone for graduates. Sophia’s Trinity College grad photos were the perfect reminder of why I love senior and graduate portrait sessions so […]

There’s something timeless about springtime in Boston, and Julia and Brandon’s session was the perfect reminder of why I love photographing couples here so much. Their spring Boston Public Garden engagement photos felt straight out of a movie — blooming trees, soft sunlight, the city skyline in the background. We opted for an early morning […]

When Abby reached out for her grad photos at Quinnipiac Law School, I was SO excited. I don’t often get the chance to do grad school graduation photos, so this was such a special treat. Abby showed up in a stunning long white dress (with a pink suit on deck) and we got right into […]

Miranda and Mitch’s Aldworth Manor wedding was nothing short of perfect. For an April wedding in New England, they truly couldn’t have asked for better weather. For their getting ready photos, Mitch was in the library in the manor and Miranda was in the oval room. This was my first time photographing at Aldworth, and […]

Sydney first reached out just days after getting engaged, and you could feel the excitement in every word of her message. Their proposal had been intimate and private, so capturing this season of their lives in a meaningful way felt especially important. From the moment she reached out, I was already so excited to capture […]

Branding photos are one of the most powerful ways that business owners can show the personality behind their work. I had the joy of photographing branding photos for calligrapher and stationery artist Carissa Marie Calligraphy, and the session perfectly captured the elevated yet approachable feel of her brand. We photographed the session at the beautiful […]

There’s something incredibly special about photographing families in a place that feels both peaceful and full of life, and Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford is exactly that. Nestled on rolling hills with sweeping views of the Connecticut landscape, it’s one of my favorite locations for relaxed, meaningful family sessions. As a Wallingford family photographer, I’m always […]

Meghan and Ross’ wedding day at The Country Club of Farmington was absolutely beautiful — one of those days that feels impossible to fully put into words. From the moment I met Meg and Ross, I could tell their wedding was going to be something special. Not just because of their stunning details, but because […]

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of documenting dozens of Catholic wedding ceremonies over the years. Whether you’re a couple planning your own Catholic wedding or a guest attending one for the first time, understanding the flow of the ceremony can make the day feel more meaningful, and less overwhelming. Catholic weddings are […]

Katie and Lewis’s Boston engagement photos could not have been more perfect! We met at the Boston Public Garden early on a crisp fall morning, and it was pure magic from start to finish. We couldn’t have scheduled their session for a better day. The trees around the garden were all bursting with color (I […]
